Define RPO and RTO
Finance systems, email, and line-of-business apps often need tighter targets than file archives.
Practical design ideas
- Multiple copies, at least one offline or immutable
- Separate credentials for backup admin from daily domain admin when possible
- SaaS backup decisions for Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace (native recycle bins are not a full strategy)
- Documented restore steps someone else can follow
Test restores
A monthly or quarterly restore of a critical system beats annual hope. Record what failed and fix it.
